You don’t need to be an expert in any particular discipline but, if you have a willingness to learn, get your hands dirty and aren’t scared of a night under canvas then you’ll fit right in.

For the best times

One minute you’ll be up a tree, the next up a mountain having the time of your life.

Adventure and outdoor is a huge area on camp and you’ll play an important role in delivering the adventure programme.

This could involve teaching kids to belay, showing them how to have fun on a zipline, take the leap of faith, tackle a Tarzan swing and perhaps scale a climbing wall.

If you’re lucky enough to be hired as a high ropes instructor then you’ll be given specialist training, including first aid, which can be fantastic for your CV.

Outdoor climbing and mountaineering

If you have experience from the SPA or other certification, such as a mountain leader qualification, you could apply for a camp with a more intense outdoor climbing and mountaineering programme.

Teaching survival skills

You could spend a summer in the great outdoors, in beautiful parts of America, doing what you love while teaching kids survival skills and encouraging them to get out of their comfort zones.

And, when you’re not showing them how it’s done, you can be socialising with people your age and off exploring beautiful parts of America – both on your days off and when you’ve finished working at the end of the season.

You don’t need to have any specific qualifications for this role but it will definitely help if you’ve been involved with Duke of Edinburgh, the Scouts or the Cadet movement. You could even be studying geography or outdoor education.

Even if you don’t have these backgrounds, let us know and we’ll see what we can do. As long as you’re passionate, knowledgeable and want to make lessons fun for the kids then you’ll do great.

Remember, working at camp is the best way to make sure you have a fun and exciting summer while getting paid. And if you want to go with one or more of your friends then let us know as well.

Animals

Cows, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, snakes and even the odd gerbil are examples of some of the animals kept on camp.

That means, if you love animals, you could land a role looking after them over the summer.

But that won’t be your only responsibility as you’ll be in charge of introducing the animals to the children (campers) so they can learn more about them.
