Located on the stunning shoreline of Loon Lake in the Pollock Pines area of the Sunshine State, California, is the Deer Crossing Wilderness Summer Camp. The camp is an ACA-accredited overnight summer camp for ages 8-17 and offers three different programs, a 4-week, 2-week, and 1-week. Deer Crossing Wilderness Summer Camp has been welcoming excited young campers through its doors since 1983. Their wilderness camp program means that campers will experience real nature whilst living in tents, learning mapping skills, compass reading and more.
If you are a keen adventurer then Deer Crossing could be the perfect place for you to work. It offers one of the most unique summer camp programs with all campers and camp staff having to hike up to camp as it has zero road access. In fact, it is California’s only lodge-based, and roadless summer camp.
The camp strongly believes that in order to offer its campers the very best summer camp experience it must meet the needs and interests of each camper. That is why Deer Crossing has developed a program that puts an emphasis on personal attention, character building, and inclusivity.
The Deer Crossing campsite is located less than 2 hours from the breathtaking Lake Tahoe on the shoreline of the stunning Loon Lake. This means that the camp is surrounded by stunning scenery and that there are many travel opportunities after camp.
The off-grid and off-road campsite provides campers and camp staff with an incredibly unique and special experience. The only ways to camp are via boat or hiking through the woodlands and experiencing the incredible wilderness on offer.
All campers and camp staff will sleep in the comfortable platform tent accommodation to provide the most authentic camp experience. All tents are furnished with comfortable mattresses to ensure that everyone at camp gets the sleep they need.
Deer Crossing Camp is extremely proud of its incredible personal approach to its camp program. Each activity has a maximum of 50 campers per session to allow campers and camp staff to build amazing relationships.

All staff members will go through a nine-day period of intense training where they will be brought up to speed with safety processes, first aid techniques, lifeguard qualifications, and more. This will ensure that every staff member is 100% ready for the arrival of campers.
Working at Deer Crossing Camp is all about adventure. All staff members will oversee and lead activities such as canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, sailing, and arts & crafts. So if you have sufficient experience in any of these activities and would love to share your passion with like-minded young adventurers, there could be the perfect opportunity for you at camp.
