GOOD FOOD

Camp Lagganlia

Body positive grub

Every Wild Packs Summer Camp will follow a healthy and balanced menu. It is very important to us that the campers are fuelling their bodies with the best food possible to take on our high action program and to maintain a positive mental attitude.

Bud Tastic Food

The menus are currently being set for the summer by our registered dieticians’. Our three balanced meals of the day will sustain both campers and staff for the challenges of the day and hopefully increase their awareness of good healthy food. The meals are all cooked on site with as many of the ingredients as possible sourced from local suppliers.

We should stress that although we will absolutely accommodate individual allergies, there will be no junk food option on our menu. Vegetarians will also be catered for and in fact many of our cooking classes will include lessons on how to prepare delicious vegetarian dishes.

Balanced Meals

For those on overnight or all day expeditions, a pre-packed and nourishing packed lunch will be provided. (That is unless of course you are on the Bush Craft course in which case you might have hunted down a Moose and be snacking on that for a few days!)

On offer at breakfast: a range of fruits, cereals, fruit juices, cereal bars, toast (wholemeal bread) and of course that Scottish staple, porridge. It should be noted that by the time you leave you will not only know how to prepare porridge for yourself but you will understand the benefits of eating it over some alternative, sugar based rubbish.

Lunch and Dinner will compose of both vegetarian and non vegetarian options and in most cases there will be a hot and cold option.

There will also be a snack before bedtime that could be anything from apple slices and Cheese, to piping hot Cocoa.

Healthy Eating

Our aim is to make our campers more aware about the huge variety of benefits and importance of eating a healthy diet, especially for teenagers. Everyone will leave camp armed with an increased level of knowledge necessary to make positive and informed choices about what they choose to eat in their everyday lives.

Junk food is not banned on camp and campers will have access to a tuck shop but the consumption of sweets and crisps will be monitored by our onsite nutrition staff. The aim is to show you why a healthy diet is important as well as arming you with the tools necessary to make informed decisions post camp.

Cooking Classes and Nutrition Classes

Camp Lagganlia’s program also offers cooking classes, providing the opportunity to gain some hands-on learning. The cooking and nutrition classes are built into the weekly schedule and all campers will participate in at least two of these sessions a week. The classes are conducted by our onsite nutrition team who are there to encourage and motivate any individual who has difficulties in altering their habits.

Classes are held in one of the camp's four smaller lodges where students have ample prep space combined with a fully equipped kitchen where they will be encouraged to get stuck in. Our nutrition team will also be taking students shopping for the ingredients needed for each lesson. Our aim is to show campers what to look out for on packaging and how to effectively compare the actual value of different brands.
