Traditional Camps

There are many varieties of summer camp to choose from; the majority of camps share the same core activities however others specialise in certain program areas. At traditional camps, the children live in wooden cabins that are divided by gender. The cabins are fully-equipped with electricity and will have en-suite bathrooms either within them or nearby. Most camps will be co-ed with groups of male and female campers enjoying the activities together. These summer camps also offer regular large events which all campers participate in together; examples include Colour Wars, Olympic Games, Eco Challenge and Carnival Day.  The real defining feature of a traditional camp is that your child does not need to be an expert in a particular sport or activity. It is a fantastic environment for them to explore their hobbies further, improve their English, try new activities, devlop their character in a safe enviroment and make lifelong friends.

Traditional camps are great for those who want to get stuck into as many different activities as they can manage. If your child gets to camp and decides they want to spend most of their time down by the lake becoming a wakeboarding pro, then that’s up to them - although they will be encouraged to try new things such as mountain boarding or trapeze skills. The most important thing to remember is that the choice is their own (rather than their counsellor’s), and from the moment they arrive until the time they board the bus to go home, they will have a blast!

A typical day will start around 8am, followed by breakfast, a cabin activity, and then it’s straight into three morning activities that they have already signed up for with their new friends. Break for lunch and then it’s back to the fun for another three activities in the afternoon. Come evening it's shower time, dinner and then an evening activity, which could take the form of an all camp dance or to watch a live stunt show! Bedtime varies on age but, by the time it gets to 10pm, campers are going to want to get some rest for the next day.

What can I do today?

How about: water-ski, high ropes course, trapeze, audition for the show, join a band, get messy in pottery, beat your bunk mates at tennis, show the Americans how to REALLY play soccer, jump on a horse, paintball your counsellor, quad bike up the mountain then bike or board down, hang out at the skate park, do some roller hockey, shoot some hoops, shoot some arrows, get wet and wild in the pool, go hiking, camping or why not just start at the top, take a deep breath and do EVERYTHING!

Competition Days

Every few weeks, there will be an all camp competition that runs for a few days. If your children don’t mind a little competition, then Olympics, Colour War or College Daze will be right up their street. It’s a chance for your children to bond with other campers they may not have met yet, to create songs and chants for their team, and to sing and dance in team colours and costumes.

Remember that all the activities are run by experienced staff that are certified in first aid and are there to make sure that campers get the most out of everything they do in the safest environment.
