Off Camp Trips
There will be many occasions where we will be running trips and activities away from camp. Many of these are dependent on the activities you sign yourself up for but we thought we would give you a little more information on few of them.
Horse Riding
There will be the opportunity to sign up for a full horsey experience where you will spend the entire day at the riding centre. With all the Wild Packs programs, there is no extra cost for riding but availability is limited.
Stable days at Newtonmore Riding Centre run from 9am to 4pm, they are a fantastic opportunity to spend a whole day with the ponies, learning how to ride them and how to care for them.
You will go for a 2 hr hack during which you will explore the woods and hill paths of Creag Dubh and the fields of Biallid and Banchor Estates. Prior to going out on the hack, you will receive formal instruction at the yard equipping you with the riding skills required to keep you safe and allow you to enjoy the stunning Highland scenery and local wildlife of Badenoch and Strathspey.
During the day you will be involved in all the daily yard duties, including; tacking up, feeding, mucking out, turning ponies out and tack cleaning. You will learn about preparing a pony for riding, grooming, caring for a pony on return from riding, nutrition & feeding, horse health and stable management. You will also have the opportunity to meet some of our young ponies and our Highland Cattle.

Mid Week Madness
Mid week madness is when we take the entire camp on a full day adventure where you will get the opportunity to take a famous tour, hang out with your friends and if you are lucky, do battle with the other bunks in a paintball war.
We will take a coach from camp to the famous Loch Ness where we will jump on the boat cruise and steam around the loch, you never know, you may even spot “Nessy”. After the boat tour, you will have a few hours to go shopping in Inverness city centre with your friends.
Once you have satisfied your need for music and food, we will then head off to a large paintball site where all those who are eager, will get the opportunity to run around the Scottish countryside shooting paintballs at each other. We should point out that the staff team has never lost!
You will need your own spending money for these trips but all the activities are included in your camp fees. In the event of poor weather, we will head off to the multiplex cinema instead of paintball.
Nutrition Classes
Everyone on camp will have nutrition and cooking classes’ built into their fortnightly schedule. During one of these classes, your bunk and one of our nutrition team will take a trip into the nearby town of Aviemore where you will endeavour to identify the best produce to prepare the menu set to you.
The idea is to give you a better understanding of what to look out for on packaging, how do identify what is nutritionally beneficial and to give you a better idea of how you can control the amount of salt and fat in your diet. The trick is to look beyond the slick marketing and purchase what you need as opposed to what you are encouraged to buy.
Once you get back to camp, you will then use all the ingredients purchased to produce the dishes our team have set for you. The dishes can be easily reproduced away from camp and we promise you, they will make your student life a little tastier than pasty and beans every night.
We appreciate this trip may not seem as interesting as the previous two but we hope you will find it informative and take you new found food and cooking knowledge home with you.
