Jamie Fraser, the director here at Wild Packs summer camps. I have been involved in the summer camp industry for over ten years now, with ten of them spent working in various roles on summer camps across the USA. (Don’t let my accent confuse you, I am Scottish, I have just spent a great deal of time repeating myself to American teenagers.)

I have experienced firsthand the positive impact the true summer camp experience has on children of all ages and we are committed to offering the same opportunity to children and staff from around the world.  Our goal here is to help provide a program that is more affordable for both parents and staff. We take a huge amount of pride in making sure we match the right person with the correct camp environment. We understand the power of camp. We understand how important it is to make sure individuals find themselves in the environment that will allow them to grow and express themselves to their fullest potential.

For me and my team, the kids come first and we will happily chat to you if you would like to find out more about how and why we do what we do. We are also the team that will bring these camps to the UK....watch this space.

ELLA - (E-louse) ((Mildred))

Hello, Ella here! I am responsible for Marketing, Advertising and the CAMPus Guru Program at Wild Packs as well as working in Recruitment and Placement with everyone else in the office too (quite the list!).

In summer 2007 I worked for the charity MENCAP, in one of their day camps in the UK. It was here I realised that a camp setting is something I really enjoyed working in. That September I went to Aberystwyth University.

In the blink of an eye it was my graduation year (2010) and I had no idea what I was going to do with my life. Then, one magical day Jamie phoned me (after he chatted to a friend of mine about any friends she may have who could horse ride) and asked if I would want to work in a summer camp. Of course I said yes and a few months later I found myself on a Greyhound bus heading up to Maine to work in an all girl’s camp, teaching horseback riding.

I can honestly say that my first time at camp was the best summer of my life. Come September I was totally hooked on camp and devastated that it was over, so you can only imagine how ecstatic I was when Jamie told me that Wild Packs were recruiting for full time staff members and invited me for an interview. Within this role I’d be able to return to camp and spread the word to others that going to camp is a life changing and amazing thing to participate in. And guess what...I got the job!

I’ve now starting my third season with Wild Packs, and I’ve just returned from a very successful second summer at the same camp. I’m really excited about summer 2012 and can’t wait to get chatting to you all about the various camps we work with and what your roles at these camps could be.

HANNAH "I am horse riding!" DUNN

Howdy Folks, I’m Hannah and I’ve just started my second season at Wild Packs Summer Camps. I am currently responsible for recruiting and screening all you lovely participants, as well helping to find you jobs at camps in the USA.

Camp has been a massive part of my life for the past 5 years (yes I know that makes me sound ridiculously old to all you youngsters). I first embarked on my American adventure at the tender age of 19, when my friend and I headed out to the wilderness of Virginia to work in the horseback department of a small, co-ed, traditional summer camp and it’s safe to say I have never looked back. I arrived looking like a rabbit in the headlights and returned to the UK in September covered head to toe in tye-dye, singing ‘the princess pat’ at the top of voice and driving my friends and family insane by starting every sentence with ‘this one time at camp’.  I couldn’t wait to return the next summer and be reunited with all the wonderful campers, staff and horses that I had grown to love but my dreams were dashed when I found out that the camp was to close down that autumn. However, in a lucky twist of fate, my details were passed on to a neighbouring camp a mere 3 hours down the road (that’s close by American standards!) and I was offered a job in their riding program.

Four years later and I have just completed another phenomenal summer, this time as a head counsellor for the older girls. I don’t view my involvement in the camping industry as a job, more as a ‘life style’ choice, because the atmosphere that is created over those 9 wonderful weeks is comparable to nothing and I couldn’t imagine spending my summers doing anything else. Therefore, you can imagine how delighted I was to stumble across Wild Packs when I was scouring the jobs website as another disheartened graduate last September. Indeed, I had to read the advert multiple times to believe that there was a job out there that would actually require me to back to camp in the summer and I applied straight away. Getting to chat about camp with you guys all day every day is the perfect way to spend those 9 months of the year when I’m waiting for camp to come back around. I can’t wait to see how it all pans out for summer 2012! If you’ve already applied, well good luck! And if you’re thinking about applying; DO IT TODAY. Trust me, it will be the best thing you ever do!

Hi! Laura here, Wild Pack’s resident Visa-Elf. I’m responsible for all visa processing here in the office, keeping you on track and helping you to make your way through all that pesky paperwork! I’m now in my third season with Wild Packs, after two wonderful summers over in the States.

My first summer was spent as Camp Photographer in Michigan. I had just finished my third year studying photography and I was all set for one amazing, career-improving summer taking pictures. What I didn’t expect was that the kids, the friends I made and the intoxicating camp spirit would get me totally hooked! I returned in September with some serious post-camp depression and by the time I got over it, I found myself as the fourth member of the Wild Packs team.

Summer 2011 saw me as Media Director at a camp located in upstate New York, taking on more responsibility and sampling a different, but just as amazing, camp spirit. My summer spent here confirmed it – I am completely and utterly obsessed with camp!

I’m so excited to be starting a new season with Wild Packs and helping you all get to camp in time for summer 2012. Hold onto your documents; it’s going to be amazing!

Emma "she sets the standard" Ray

Hello, I’m Emma, the latest addition to the Wild Packs office. I’m working with Hannah to recruit and screen new applicants, and then hopefully find you a great camp in America.

My camp adventure began in 2008 when I stumbled across Jamie’s Wild Packs stall at the University of York; soon after our chat I ran to a computer and filled in an application. I was soon placed at a co-ed traditional camp in Maine where I have spent the past two summers working as a sailing instructor and general waterfront staff member (teaching anything from water polo, water aerobics, swimming lessons, water fun, canoeing and kayaking). Alongside this I’ve been a counselor for the eldest female cabin. I can truthfully say that the four months I’ve spent at camp have been an incredible and rewarding experience, I was welcomed into the camp family from the off-set and felt comfortable enough to be the crazy and silly version of myself. Nowhere else could you spend your day in florescent clashing clothing, sing songs at the top of your lungs, spend your day making children laugh and have fun, and make life-long friendships with people from all over the globe.

Needless to say I am reluctant to let camp go and upon graduation was fortunate enough to be offered a full-time position with Wild Packs. I’ve now relocated up to chilly Scotland and can’t wait to speak with you all about your opportunities at camp next summer.

I’m hooked on camp, are you prepared to be?

CASSIE - Southern Hemisphere Goddess

G’day! Cassie here, coming to you from the Southern Hemisphere office of Wild Packs. My role is to manage the office on this side of the globe and recruit all you lovely Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans who think camp in America would be the place for you! I am also here to support you through the process of obtaining a visa and getting yourself off to camp in time.

I have just completed my first summer (in northern hemisphere seasons that is) at a camp in upstate New York working as a lifeguard and teaching swimming, and can honestly say I came back wanting to return as soon as possible! After falling in love with the lifestyle and all the wonderful campers and staff, who became family over the summer, I knew that camp really was a place unlike any other.  Even with my wonderful swimsuit tan lines it became a place where I could completely be myself and do silly things I would never dream of doing in my everyday life. So, you can imagine my joy when Jamie offered me a position with Wild Packs operating from my home country, allowing me to return to camp for the rest of my life if I wish!

Before camp I travelled Europe and the UK and lived in Whistler, Canada for the winter (a climate that look a little adjusting to) until I finally decided to make my way down south and work at camp. After camp I travelled the USA and Canada and after all this I can still say camp in America was one of the best times during my elongated trip! I have graduated from university and worked various jobs including office positions, swimming coaching and reception. Of all these I can tell you Wild Packs is the job I am most excited about because I get to bring the camp experience I had to the Southern Hemisphere and send you all off to have the time of your lives like I did! I can’t wait to see what 2012 brings for Wild Packs in the Southern Hemisphere and am keen to start talking to all you wonderful folk down here and get you on your way to the US of A!  If you want to go from summer to summer, love working with children and want to be yourself in a fun environment, then what are you waiting for?
